Ultrasound (Sonography)
What We Do
Ultrasound, also called sonography, is a non-invasive procedure that uses sound waves to view and produce images of internal organs, tissue, and blood flow inside the body. Images are created when sound waves are transmitted to the area of interest and the returning echoes are recorded.
Our Ultrasound Department consists of one highly skilled and experienced sonographer. We’re limited to outpatient services available from our tele-radiologist partners.
We perform:
-
General ultrasound exams (abdomen, hernia, thyroid, pelvic, testicular, kidneys, etc.)
We Do Not perform:
- Breast and cardiac ultrasounds
- First trimester OB
- Second trimester OB anatomy scan
- Third trimester OB growth scan
- Pediatric intussusception
- Pediatric appendix
- Pediatric pyloric stenosis
- Neonatal head
- Musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasound
- Renal artery stenosis
Exam Preparation
Wear loose clothing to your ultrasound appointment.
Depending on which part of your body is being scanned, you may be asked to:
- Take off some of your clothing; you’ll be given a hospital sheet or chaperone, depending on the exam and gender of your sonographer
- Remove metal objects, such as a belt, jewelry, and eyeglasses, which might interfere with image results
- Before your procedure, you may be required to refrain from eating or drinking for a few hours, or have oral preparation instructions, based on timing of the scan
