Patients who are previous contact lens wearers, please follow the below instructions:
- Wear contacts to your exam
- Bring a copy of your most recent prescription or boxes to have your prescription renewed*
*Barksdale Optometry does not provide contacts. Purchasing contacts is an out of pocket expense.
New Contact Lens Wearers
Patients who have never worn contacts (or patients without previous contact lens information):
- Will have to be seen off-base for an initial contact lens fitting**
- Not a TRICARE covered service—out of pocket cost!
**Not applicable to Flyers—please see Optometry for Aircrew Contact Lens Policy
Corneal Refractive Surgery
Corneal refractive surgery is NOT a TRICARE covered benefit.
Due to clinic manning shortages and other mission requirements the Barksdale Refractive Surgery Program may be intermittently suspended. Once resumed, Barksdale Optometry will follow the USAF-CRS Program prioritization policy, which assigns surgery priority based on AFSC.
Barksdale Optometry can only support sending Priority 1 patients for refractive surgery. Per this policy, Aircrew and EOD personnel are considered Priority 1. If the Barksdale Refractive Surgery Program expands to other AFSCs, this webpage will be updated.
Dependents & Retirees
Dependents and retirees do not require a referral to be seen off base with a network provider for a routine eye exam.
